Home shirt as worn in the season where promising French manager Paul Le Guen took the Ibrox hotseat. Le Guen came in with a philosophy of unearthing young talent and Chairman David Murray described the signing of Le Guen as “a massive moonbeam of success” and promised that the club had big plans. However, by November Rangers found themselves 15 points behind rivals Celtic and consistent results were hard to come by, leading to Le Guen leaving by mutual consent, making him the Gers shortest serving manager. Le Guen was replaced by Walter Smith who joined for his second spell managing at Ibrox. Smith immediately put his stamp on the side and results followed, finishing the season in second after a brace of Old Firm wins over Celtic
