The 2006-07 campaign saw Rochdale, under the mid-season appointment of Keith Hill as caretaker-manager, secure a respectable 9th-place finish in League Two, marking their 33rd consecutive season in the fourth tier. Leading the charge was the young striker Chris Dagnall, whose 17 league goals were a pivotal factor in the team's consistent attacking performance. This season, though they ultimately finished outside the play-off spots, was crucial as it stabilized the club and marked the beginning of the Keith Hill era, which would soon bring a period of promotion challenges and a run to Wembley for The Dale.
