Notes

The 2006-07 campaign was a season of soaring hope and agonizing near-miss for Schalke 04, as Die Knappen came spectacularly close to their first-ever Bundesliga title, finishing a hard-fought second place, just two points behind VfB Stuttgart. Under manager Mirko Slomka, the team led the table for much of the campaign, driven by the prolific forward Kevin Kurányi, whose 15 league goals powered their attack. This highly competitive finish secured a coveted spot in the UEFA Champions League group stage. The squad was a compelling mix of experience and youth, notably featuring the breakthrough talents of a young Mesut Özil and the emerging goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, in a season defined by the tension of the title race and the ultimate heartbreak of losing out on the penultimate matchday.
