Away shirt as worn when Roy Keane’s newly promoted side managed a 15th place finish in the Premier League. This was Roy Keane’s first season as a Premier League manager after guiding Sunderland to promotion in his debut season, however the manager’s inexperience may have shown this season with Keane introducing 12 new players in pre-season after allowing seven players to leave. The side’s lack of cohesion would undoubtedly have played a part in Sunderland’s early struggles, winning just two of their first 16 games. The Black Cats did rally later on in the season to avoid an immediate relegation, winning 3 in a row in March to drag the side up to 13th after spending a total of 6 weeks in and around the relegation zone. The side eventually finished in 15th after back to back losses to Bolton and Arsenal in the final two games
