The 2007-08 campaign delivered a season of transition and narrow heartbreak for Wolverhampton Wanderers as the club entered a new era under the ownership of Steve Morgan. Under manager Mick McCarthy, the Wanderers surged toward the play-offs, ultimately finishing 7th in the Championship and missing out on the final promotion spot by a mere single goal in the goal difference column. Spearheading the attack was January signing Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, whose 12 goals following his move from Plymouth Argyle proved vital in a campaign built on the emergence of young talents like Wayne Hennessey and Kevin Foley. Despite the agonizing end to the season, it was a pivotal year of investment and rebuilding that laid the foundations for the club’s imminent return to the top flight.
