Notes

The 2008-09 campaign delivered a fiercely competitive and ultimately heartbreaking season for Anderlecht as the Purple and White finished a dramatic 2nd in the Belgian First Division after a spectacular league battle. The season culminated in an extraordinary finale, with the team tied on points and wins with rivals Standard Liège, forcing a tense two-legged championship playoff which they narrowly lost 2-1 on aggregate. Leading the charge was the brilliant attacking midfielder M'barek Boussoufa, whose 11 goals helped him secure the Belgian Golden Shoe for the second time. It was a turbulent year that marked the club's centenary and remains a defining chapter of an agonizing near-miss on the domestic title.
