Home shirt as worn during the season in which the side finished 10th in the Premier League under Mark Hughes. 2008-09 was a pivotal season in the history of Manchester City after the takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group. The new owners wasted no time in making a statement with the £32.5m signing of Robinho from Real Madrid on the same day as the takeover. Many saw this as the start of a Samba-style revolution coming to East Manchester after numerous rumours linking the club to another Brazillian superstar, Kaká. The move for the AC Milan superstar would never materialise but the fortunes of Manchester City were set to change under the new ambitious owners, with them intent on moulding the club into the biggest football club in the world, few could have predicted the transformation the club was about to see
