Notes

The 2008-09 campaign was a season of devastating disappointment for FC Nantes, as Les Canaris, freshly promoted back to Ligue 1, plummeted to a 19th-place finish and were immediately relegated to the second tier once more. Despite the summer optimism fueled by the high-profile signing of Croatian star Ivan Klasnić, the year was defined by managerial turmoil and an inability to find consistency. Leading the scoring charts was the veteran Mamadou Bagayoko, whose 7 crucial goals were a decisive factor in the fight for survival, which ended in heartbreak on the final matchday. It remains a painful and unforgettable chapter that saw the historic club's brief top-flight return cut short, notably concluding with the final appearance of club legend Frédéric Da Rocha.
