Notes

The 2008-09 campaign delivered glorious cup silverware and a dramatic European journey for Werder Bremen. Die Werderaner captured the DFB-Pokal trophy with a Mesut Özil winner against Bayer Leverkusen in the final, capping a phenomenal run that also saw them finish as dramatic runners-up in the UEFA Cup. The prolific Claudio Pizarro led the line with 28 goals across all competitions, proving decisive even as the club finished 10th in the Bundesliga. It was a memorable year of knockout success and attacking flair that remains a celebrated chapter in the club's history.
