Notes

The 2008-09 campaign delivered ultimate heartbreak for Southampton as The Saints finished a crushing 23rd in the Championship, resulting in relegation to the third tier. The season was defined by severe off-pitch turmoil, including a managerial change from Jan Poortvliet to Mark Wotte and the club's parent company entering administration, which resulted in a crippling ten-point deduction for the following season. Amid the chaos, young striker David McGoldrick still managed to lead the scoring charts with 12 crucial league goals in his breakthrough campaign, but could not prevent the devastating drop. This dark year marked the lowest point in the club's modern history, foreshadowing a fight for survival that would ultimately lead to a miraculous resurgence.. The 2009-10 campaign delivered glorious cup silverware for Southampton, as The Saints, despite finishing 7th in League One, triumphed in the EFL Trophy with a memorable victory over Carlisle in the Final at Wembley. Leading the charge was Rickie Lambert, whose remarkable 29 goals proved decisive in a campaign built on defiant success and attacking flair. It was a season of promise that marked a vital moment in the club's history and remains a beloved chapter in their journey back through the divisions.
