The 2009-10 campaign delivered a triumphant return to the professional ranks for Fortuna Düsseldorf as Die Flingeraner, newly promoted after a decade away, surged to a spectacular 4th-place finish in the 2. Bundesliga, narrowly missing the promotion play-off spot.
