City began the season under Mark Hughes with an overhaul of marquee signings that included the likes of Gareth Barry, Roque Santa Cruz and controversial arrival of Carlos Tevez from arch-rivals Manchester United. Hughes was dismissed before Christmas after a poor run of results and dramatic derby defeat before being replaced by Roberto Mancini.
