The 2009-10 campaign delivered a dramatic and memorable European qualification for Motherwell, as The Steelmen surged to a highly respectable 5th-place finish in the Scottish Premier League. Despite mid-season turbulence that saw manager Jim Gannon replaced by Craig Brown, the new boss led a remarkable 12-game unbeaten run to secure a top-six spot and ultimately, a place in the Europa League. Leading the charge was the on-loan striker Lukas Jutkiewicz, whose 12 league goals proved decisive in a campaign built on sheer grit and resilience. The season is immortalized by the astonishing, league-record 6-6 draw against Hibernian, a game in which Jutkiewicz scored a spectacular, "Van Basten-like" injury-time equalizer to complete a historic comeback from 6-2 down. It was a turbulent but unforgettable year that marked a vital return to European competition.
