Notts County started the 2009-10 season in League Two with a huge spring in their step, for many reasons, after a bumpy five-years. Following many years of serious off-the-pitch issues, the Magpies were taken over by Munto Finance - supposedly a wealthy Middle-East based consortium, who then appointed ex-England boss Sven-Göran Eriksson as director of football. Large-scale investments were promised, and the club even signed Sol Campbell and Kasper Schmeichel as statement players. However, the takeover had collapsed before Christmas after it was exposed as fraudulent. Eriksson resigned in February, and the club was threatened with liquidation. Fortunately for County fans, they were saved by businessman Ray Trew and went on to finish 1st in League Two, capping off a tough season.
