The 2009 Texas Rangers enjoyed their first winning season since 2004, finishing with a strong 87-75 record and a second-place finish in the AL West. Under manager Ron Washington and the guidance of team president Nolan Ryan, the club showcased significant improvement in pitching and remained a serious postseason contender until the final weeks of the year. Highlights included Ian Kinsler hitting for the cycle, Michael Young’s successful transition to third base as an All-Star, and a high-powered offense that established the team as a rising force in the American League. The 2010 AL MVP and a five-time All-Star, Josh Hamilton was a dominant outfielder for the Texas Rangers who earned three Silver Slugger Awards and led the franchise to consecutive World Series appearances.
