The 2011-12 campaign was a tumultuous season of high drama and eventual heartbreak for Luton Town, culminating in a 5th-place finish in the Conference Premier, the club's lowest-ever league position. The Hatters, under new manager Paul Buckle after the mid-season sacking of Gary Brabin, dramatically secured a play-off spot and then dominated Wrexham in the semi-finals. Leading the charge with 11 crucial league goals (16 overall) was Stuart Fleetwood, but the season ended in agony with a 2-1 defeat to York City in the play-off final at Wembley, consigning the club to a fourth consecutive year in non-League football.
