Notes

The 2011-12 campaign was a season of consolidation and transition for VfL Bochum as Die Unabsteigbaren worked to re-establish themselves in the 2. Bundesliga following relegation. The year was marked by turbulence, including a mid-season managerial change, yet the club secured a respectable 11th-place finish and reached the DFB-Pokal Third Round. Leading the line and providing the key attacking spark was the new Japanese arrival, Takashi Inui, whose seven crucial league goals, built on his sharp dribbling and high goal-getting ability, immediately caught the fans' attention in his debut European season. This defining chapter, despite the challenges, laid a stable foundation as the club dreamed of a return to the Bundesliga.
