Notes

The 2012-13 campaign was a dramatic tale of mid-season rescue for Espanyol, as Los Pericos finished 13th in La Liga, recovering from a spell in the relegation zone after a turbulent start under Mauricio Pochettino. The arrival of manager Javier 'El Vasco' Aguirre in November was the catalyst for the stunning turnaround, masterminding a defensive improvement that pulled the club to safety with an impressive unbeaten run in the new year. Leading the attack and embodying the team's grit was the vice-captain and playmaker Joan Verdú, whose crucial 9 league goals proved vital in securing top-flight status. It was a stressful but ultimately triumphant season, defined by a desperate fight for survival that remains a pivotal chapter in the club's history.
