In the 2012 MLS season, the San Jose Earthquakes enjoyed a historic campaign, finishing 1st overall with a 19-9-6 record to claim their second Supporters' Shield. Led by manager Frank Yallop, the team set franchise records with 72 goals and 66 points. Star forward Chris Wondolowski won the MLS MVP award after tying the league's single-season scoring record with 27 goals. Despite their regular-season dominance, the Earthquakes' postseason run ended in the Conference Semifinals with an upset loss to rivals LA Galaxy.
