In the 2012 season, Fogão enjoyed regional success by winning the Taça Rio and finishing as runners-up in the Carioca 1 under manager Oswaldo de Oliveira. Globally, the club gained immense attention with the marquee signing of Dutch legend Clarence Seedorf. Domestically, they secured a solid 7th-place finish in Série A.
