The 2014-15 campaign delivered ultimate heartbreak for Crawley Town as The Red Devils finished a crushing 22nd in League One, resulting in relegation to the fourth tier after a three-season stay. The season was defined by a massive mid-season slump, including an incredibly difficult 13-game winless run, and the turbulent departure of manager John Gregory due to health problems, leading to Dean Saunders taking over on an interim basis. Despite a brave late fight that kept their hopes alive until the very end, highlighted by a crucial 3-2 win at rivals Colchester, relegation was confirmed on the final day following a painful 1-2 loss at home to Coventry City. Leading the desperate charge was the talismanic striker Izale McLeod, whose 19 goals proved to be a magnificent individual effort but were ultimately not enough to prevent the club's return to League Two. It was a dark, unforgettable year that ended the club's longest spell in the third tier.
