The 2015-16 campaign delivered a tense, dramatic relegation battle for Eintracht Frankfurt as Die Adler finished a perilous 16th in the Bundesliga. The club's talisman, Alexander Meier, anchored the attack with 12 crucial goals, despite being hampered by injury late in the season. The turbulent year was defined by the mid-season appointment of manager Niko Kovač, who engineered a desperate, late-season surge culminating in a dramatic relegation play-off victory over 1. FC Nürnberg to secure their top-flight status. It was a stressful but ultimately triumphant season of sheer fighting spirit.
