The 2015-16 campaign was a devastating one for Hannover 96 as Die Roten spectacularly slumped to an 18th-place finish in the Bundesliga, resulting in relegation after a 14-season stay in the top flight. The turbulent year was defined by a coaching carousel that saw Michael Frontzeck and Thomas Schaaf both sacked, and an eight-match losing run that proved impossible to overcome. Leading the line was forward Artur Sobiech, whose 7 league goals were a small consolation in a season marked by deep disappointment, and one that remains a painful, defining chapter as the club returned to the 2. Bundesliga for the first time since 2002.
