During the 2015–16 season, Swiss football club BSC Young Boys enjoyed a strong domestic campaign, finishing as runners-up in the Swiss Super League with 69 points behind champions FC Basel. Striker Guillaume Hoarau led the line effectively, finishing as the league's second-highest scorer with 18 goals. However, their form in domestic competitions did not translate to continental success; the Bern-based side suffered early exits in Europe, falling to Monaco in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round and losing to Qarabağ in the UEFA Europa League play-offs.
