The 2016-17 campaign delivered a vital return to European football for Les Girondins as they finished a strong 6th in Ligue 1, securing a coveted spot in the Europa League qualifying rounds under manager Jocelyn Gourvennec. The team's league goals were spearheaded by the Uruguayan forward Diego Rolán, who notched 9, but the overall attacking thrust was driven by the exciting breakout season of young Gaëtan Laborde, who finished as the club's top scorer in all competitions with 13 goals. This positive year, built on the promise of youth and a determined run to the Coupe de la Ligue Semi-finals, marked a significant chapter of consolidation for Bordeaux.
