Notes

The 2016-17 campaign was a season of continental adventure and domestic adjustment for Borussia Mönchengladbach as Die Fohlen ultimately finished 9th in the Bundesliga. The year was marked by a mid-season managerial change and a thrilling run of cup performances, led by new captain Lars Stindl. After an inevitable exit from the Champions League group of death (featuring Barcelona and Man City), the team dropped into the Europa League where Stindl's legendary hat-trick powered a famous comeback against Fiorentina to reach the Round of 16. Stindl finished the season as the top goalscorer with 11 league goals (18 overall), anchoring a team that also reached the DFB-Pokal semi-finals in a memorable, high-stakes season of cup glory.
