The 2016-17 season was a trying one for Coventry CIty fans, as The Sky Blues slumped to a 23rd place finish in League One, relegating them to the bottom of the football league for the following season. Starting the season under Tony Mowbray's stewardship, December saw Coventry switch to Russell Slade, who failed to revitalise the side, before in March Mark Robins took over. Welsh winger George Thomas led the goalscoring lines with a measly 5 goals, marking the season out as one to forget for The Sky Blues.
