The 2016-17 campaign delivered silverware and a strong league push for River Plate as Los Millonarios finished a competitive 2nd in the Primera División. Under manager Marcelo Gallardo, the season was defined by the team's success in winning the Copa Argentina and a deep run to the Copa Libertadores semi-finals. Leading the charge was the sensational breakthrough star Sebastián Driussi, whose 17 league goals, part of his 20+ goal haul across all competitions, proved decisive in a campaign built on attacking flair and momentum. It was a vital year that cemented the club's status as a dominant force and remains a defining chapter of Driussi's legendary period at the club before his transfer to Europe.
