Notes

The 2016-17 campaign delivered an immediate and triumphant return to the top flight for VfB Stuttgart as Die Schwaben clinched the 2. Bundesliga title in their first season following relegation. Under the mid-season guidance of manager Hannes Wolf, the team was spearheaded by the clinical centre-forward Simon Terodde, whose league-topping 25 goals in 32 games secured him the Golden Boot and fired the club to automatic promotion. This spectacular success, which marked their first promotion in 41 years, culminated in massive, jubilant celebrations that saw 100,000 fans celebrating the championship, establishing it as a pivotal chapter of redemption for the club.
