In the 2016 Major League Soccer season, the New England Revolution’s 21st year in the league, the team finished 7th in the Eastern Conference and 14th overall, ultimately missing out on the MLS Cup Playoffs. Led by head coach Jay Heaps, the squad experienced a mixed league campaign but found significant success in the U.S. Open Cup, where they advanced all the way to the final before finishing as tournament runners-up. Juan Agudelo and Kei Kamara finished the season as the club's top goalscorers, each netting 7 goals.
