Notes

The 2017-18 campaign delivered a huge scare and a dramatic, last-gasp survival for Southampton as The Saints clung on to their Premier League status, finishing a precarious 17th. The year was marked by deep struggle under Mauricio Pellegrino, who was sacked in March after an alarming run of just one win in 17 league matches. Former player Mark Hughes was brought in, and he masterminded the crucial, late-season surge, including the pivotal 1-0 final week win over Swansea, that secured their top-flight place. Despite the turmoil, striker Charlie Austin's 7 goals proved vital, anchoring a campaign built on sheer grit and a memorable run to the FA Cup semi-finals, making it a defining chapter of endurance for the club.
