The 2018-19 campaign was a season of soaring ambition and an agonizingly close title race for Borussia Dortmund as Die Schwarzgelben finished 2nd in the Bundesliga, falling just two points shy of Bayern Munich. Under new manager Lucien Favre, the team delivered an electric first half, going on a club-record 15-game unbeaten run and leading the table well into the new year, built on the spectacular partnership between captain Marco Reus (with 17 goals and 8 assists) and the breakout star Jadon Sancho (who led the league with 14 assists). Leading the line was the clinical striker Paco Alcácer, whose 18 league goals proved vital and included a Bundesliga record for the most goals scored by a substitute. Despite a mid-season stumble and exits in the Champions League and DFB-Pokal Round of 16, this remains a memorable chapter defined by its attacking brilliance and the intense drama of their push for the Meisterschale.
