The 2018-19 campaign was a season of heroic giant-killing and heartbreaking near-miss for Newport County. The Exiles finished a crucial 7th in League Two, securing a play-off spot, but fell agonizingly short of promotion in the final, losing 1-0 to Tranmere Rovers in the 119th minute at Wembley. The campaign was truly immortalized by their incredible FA Cup run, which saw them defeat Premier League side Leicester City and Championship side Middlesbrough to reach the Fifth Round for the first time in 70 years, ultimately losing to eventual winners Manchester City. Leading the charge was the beloved striking duo Pádraig Amond and Jamille Matt, who scored 14 league goals each, with Amond's 24 goals overall earning him a share of the FA Cup's Golden Boot.
