In the 2018 MLS season, defending champions Toronto FC endured a difficult league campaign, finishing 9th in the Eastern Conference and 19th overall with a 10-6-18 record, ultimately missing the playoffs. Despite their struggles in MLS play, the team found significant success in other competitions. They won their third consecutive Canadian Championship title by defeating Vancouver and reached the final of the CONCACAF Champions League, where they narrowly lost to Chivas on penalties.
