Despite a season curtailed by the pandemic, which resulted in an 11th-place League Two finish, the definitive glory came at Wembley. In their first-ever EFL season, they overcame League One holders Portsmouth 4-2 on penalties after a dramatic 0-0 draw in the final. Leading the charge in the league was Adam Rooney, whose 8 goals helped secure a solid first year in the Football League. It was a triumphant season that marked Salford's dramatic arrival on the English football stage and secured their maiden silverware.
