In the 2019 MLS season, Real Salt Lake finished third in the Western Conference with a 16-13-5 record, securing 53 points and a consecutive postseason appearance. The team excelled defensively, conceding just 41 goals, but struggled offensively, scoring only 46 goals. Despite off-pitch distractions and a mid-season coaching change from Mike Petke to Freddy Juarez, RSL achieved a franchise-record 12 home wins. In the playoffs, they defeated Portland 2-1 before falling 2-0 to Seattle.
