In the 2021 MLS season, the club rebranded from the Montreal Impact to CF Montréal. Under new head coach Wilfried Nancy, the team transitioned to an attractive possession-based style of play. Due to COVID-19 cross-border travel restrictions, they played their early home matches in Florida before returning to Canada in August. Montréal narrowly missed the MLS Cup Playoffs, finishing 10th in the Eastern Conference, but they concluded their campaign by winning the Canadian Championship.
