Notes

The 2022-23 campaign marked a turbulent return to the second tier for Saint-Étienne as Les Verts battled through a chaotic first season back in Ligue 2 following their emotional relegation. Despite starting the season with a three-point deduction and sinking to the foot of the table, a dramatic mid-season resurgence under manager Laurent Batlles saw the team climb spectacularly to finish a respectable 8th. The key to this revival was the sensational form of Ivorian striker Jean-Philippe Krasso, whose 17 league goals and 12 assists were decisive, including a memorable four-goal haul in the 5-0 victory over Bastia. This hard-fought year, characterized by a never-say-die spirit and the emergence of new fan heroes, saw the club stabilize its position and remains a defining chapter in the fight to restore Les Verts to France's elite.
