August 2003. Sporting CP opened the Estadio José Alvalade with a pre-season friendly against Manchester United. Wearing number 28, an 18-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo put on a performance that stopped a squad of Premier League champions in their tracks.
Sir Alex Ferguson signed him days later for £12.24 million. It was Ronaldo's last appearance in a Sporting shirt.
Twenty years on, Sporting's 2023-24 third shirt marks the stadium anniversary. Black with gold sleeves, directly referencing the gold shirt Ronaldo wore in the second half that night. The CR7 brand takes the place of the Nike logo on the chest, with Ronaldo's "love to win, hate to lose" signature running across the shirt.
A full-circle moment. The shirt Ronaldo wore before becoming CR7, and the shirt that carries the CR7 brand.
