The Greece national football team experienced a historic resurgence during the 2024–25 season under the guidance of new head coach Ivan Jovanović. Competing in League B of the UEFA Nations League, the Greeks delivered a stunning, emotional milestone by securing their first-ever away victory over a World Cup-winning nation, defeating England 2–1 at Wembley Stadium—a victory dedicated to their late teammate George Baldock. Driven by an exciting new generation of young talent like Christos Tzolis, alongside prolific striker Vangelis Pavlidis and dynamic midfielder Giannis Konstantelias, the team finished second in their group on goal difference behind England. They capped off their stellar campaign in March 2025 by defeating Scotland 3–1 on aggregate in the promotion play-offs, successfully earning promotion to UEFA Nations League League A for the first time in their history
