My Bayern Munich Football Shirt Collection – Marcel Greitens

Marcel is a Paderborn based Bayern Munich fan who has followed the German giants since the early 90s. He now has an impressive collection of over one hundred FCB shirts with no signs of slowing down yet!

Why Bayern shirts?

I have supported Bayern since 1993 when I first saw them play on TV, seeing that great side with Lothar Matthäus bursting through the midfield I was hooked instantly and haven’t looked back!

How many shirts do you have in your collection?

Currently I have 122 shirts, these are a mix of matchworn/issue and replica shirts,try to collect shirts from special players or special games. I want to branch out and eventually have one of every shirt that Bayern Munich played in, whether this is a match worn shirt or a replica, just owning each design is my priority.

What was your first shirt and when did you buy it?

The first shirt I got was a 2014/15 European Home shirt with Robben print, I was gifted it that Christmas and instantly was hooked, I’ve been collecting shirts ever since that moment.

What is your favourite shirt and why is it so special?

I have a few that are very special to me, I’d have to start with a matchworn Michael Rummenigge shirt I have from the 80s, it’s not easy to find shirts from the 80s in any form never mind matchworn!

The second would be a matchworn and signed goalkeeper shirt also from the 80s and with the iconic Commodore sponsor.

I also have the famous and unique derby shirt that was worn against 1860 Munich in 1997, a very rare one-off!

The white third shirt from 1996 is notorious with Bayern collectors as a must own piece, I have one signed by Mario Basler, this really is the holy grail for any Bayern collector.

There are a few others that I must mention, such as the 1986 Home with the commodore sponsor, we won the league in this shirt on the last day of the season against Dortmund!

I have a matchworn Mario Gomez shirt that was worn against Rome in the Champion’s League, it even has some of the striker’s blood on it!

I have a shirt worn by FCB legend Mehmet Scholl with the very rare Opel Agila sponsor.

Finally, the last shirt is a shirt we wore only twice during 1990 to celebrate our 90th birthday!

What is the shirt you would like most in your collection?

I’d love to get my hands on this shirt from the 1950s and 60s but they’re really rare, it’s probably the olded shirt you can hope to get hold of, even the Bayern Museum doesn’t have any older!

Do you have any other interesting stories?

I once entered a photo contest on the official Bayern Munich website to win the 2013/14 home shirt with the image below. The picture was taken to celebrate me buying the 100th shirt to add to my collection!
