Unfortunately, the London-based side's early form dipped and they were soon out of the running for a league title and with a quarter-final Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid, the FA Cup was Chelsea's last hope of domestic success. The side suffered an agonising penalty shoot-out loss to Liverpool in the final to end the season in disappointment.
