My Brand New With Tags Football Shirt Collection – Gerard

Gerard Martin Viura is a Barcelona native and fan who has been avidly collecting shirts for a decade. He focuses on brand new items and has an affinity for 90s designs and the shirts worn in the Japanese League and at the 1994 World Cup.

Why Brand New with Tags Shirts?

Currently, I only collect the classics football shirts in BNWT or BNIB condition and mainly focus on shirts from the 90's. I go for tagged or in bag shirts because they hold greater value and the condition is always perfect, it does make finding the shirts I want that bit harder, though! The reason that I have mainly been focusing on 90's shirts is just down to the designs, I feel this period had the best looking shirts.

How many shirts do you have in your collection?

I now have around 1000 shirts in my collection!

What was your first shirt and when did you buy it?

I've been collecting football shirts for over 10 years now, it all started when I played football as a child and my dad bought me the FC Barcelona jersey every season. Ever since then I have bought the new Barca shirt as soon as they were released. I then started buying shirts from the top teams in each league, then shirts from different international teams and later I concentrated on rarer clubs in each country and even the odd matchworn shirt.

My first BNIB shirt that I bought to start that part of my collection off was the 1982 Barcelona Meyba shirt which was from CFS! I have now managed to collect all the Barcelona Meyba shirts!

What is your favourite shirt and why is it so special?

It’s way too hard for me to pick just one, I have loads that I could never part with so I’ll have to give you my top five:

• Holland 1988 Home
• Germany 1990 Home
• FC Barcelona 1992 Away
• Ajax 1990 Away
• USA 1994 Away

The designs for all of these are amazing and they’re all hard to get hold of, especially in brand new condition!

What is the shirt you would like most in your collection?

I’m still after loads of BNIB 90's shirts! As well as this I have been collecting a lot of classic designs from the J-League and I’m also trying to get hold of every shirt from the 1994 World Cup and there are still a couple more I need to get hold of!
