Jesús is a lifelong Valencia fan who has been collecting Valencia shirts for the past few years after stumbling across his families collection of home and away shirts. He has since branched out into collecting matchworn shirts worn by his favourite players and club and now has over one hundred and fifty shirts. We spoke to Jesús about his favourite purchases so far and what he is looking to add to his already impressive stash of Valencia jerseys.

I was born and live here in Valencia, Spain and my heart belongs to Valencia CF. The love for this club is passed through generations, it started from my grandfather, it then continued with my father and now the passion is spread among my brothers and me.

In terms of where the collecting came from I have a lot of siblings in my family and we have always been keen on shirts. We used to buy Valencia home or away kits and one day I took a look back at all of them. I realised that we had lot of good shirts that brought back a lot of memories which made me think about collecting them. My challenge was to find all home and away kits from 1990. Firstly, I wanted to purchase all the shirts from fan shops here in Spain, I soon managed this and later noticed people who were collecting matchworn shirts so I thought I'd give it a go. Through collecting I have been lucky enough to meet some really great people and have even made faithful friends.

How many shirts do you have in your collection?

I now have around 200 pieces in my collection now, some are from the Valencia club shop from when I first got into collecting but my collection is mainly made up of matchworn shirts now. I'd say around 160 of them have been worn in matches and by some of the greats that we have had play here at the Mestalla!

What was your first shirt?

I had Valencia shirts as a kid supporting the club and going to games but I would not count these as part of my collection. I'd say I started collecting shirts about six years ago in 2013, it all started with a matchworn David Navarro shirt from the 2009-10 season, my most recent was purchased this week so it has remained a big part of my life since then!

What's your favourite shirt?

I have some matchworn shirts from some Valencia greats that I hold very dear to me, including Vicente Rodríguez, Santiago Cañizares, Claudio López, David Albelda, Fernando Gómez and more but my favourite Valencia shirts are still the shirts that we wore in 1990. This was the year that I was born so it has always been a significant one for me and all four of the shirts are of a great design, PUMA did a great job of our shirts that year.

If you could add any piece to your collection, what would it be and why?

I would really like to find retro kits, especially related to the 80s but, unfortunately there are a very few available. I will continue to search.
