My Mérida AD Football Shirt Collection – Miguel Jover

Why do you collect Mérida AD football shirts?

Mérida AD are my local team and I’ve supported them for as long as I have been a football fan, when I started collecting football shirts it only made sense to buy Romanos (Mérida AD) shirts and that soon snowballed into the collection I have now!

How many shirts do you have in your collection?

I now have around 140 shirts in my collection with a number of those also being from teams such as Real Madrid, Valencia and the Spanish National Team.

What was your first shirt and how did you get it

2003/04 Real Madrid Away Shirt, it was a present from my Uncle who also bought one for my brother.

What is your favourite shirt and why is it so special?

I’m a big fan of the shirts we wore that were manufactured by PUMA and I have a matchworn goalkeeper shirt from 1996/97 when we were playing in La Liga it was worn by the everpresent shot stopper Juan Balaguer.

What is the shirt you would like most in your collection?

There is one shirt that I need from our period wearing PUMA shirts which is the 1996/97 Away shirt, hopefully I’ll get my hands on it soon!

Do you have interesting stories?

I have a Santiago Cañizares match issue 2006 shirt from the World Cup in Germany, I spoke to him via Instagram about the shirt and he told me that it is one of the few shirts he doesn’t have in his personal collection anymore! It’s definitely one of my most treasured pieces.
